Modern Primitive Revival is my passion project. It is a DIY punk style zine that is dedicated to being a manual for self-sufficiency and sustainability, even in an urban environment, that can serve as a one-stop-shop for people learning how to live their lives separate from the societal structures we are currently a part of. All of the collaging was done by hand and then scanned into a computer and all of the writing was done by me with interviews of some of my friends. I have since printed black and white as well as color versions and would love to carry on with making more issues of MPR.
The goal for this was to really explore my skills with hands on design and create a finished product that meant something to me. This concept is close to my heart and I believe this is the kind of publication that many people would love to have in such insane and unprecedented times. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic I really wanted to become more self-sufficient and start growing my own food amongst other things. I looked online for information but there is just so much and it was hard to figure out what’s what. I saw a need for a zine like this that addresses these things simply from the perspective of others who have taken these tasks on and have knowledge to share. What better way to convey the desire to live without relying on existing power structures than through a punk style zine?
